To take the HiSET exam in Minnesota you must meet the following eligibility requirements:

Age: If you are 19 years old, do not have a recognized and documented high school diploma, and are not currently enrolled in high school, you are eligible to take the HiSET® in Minnesota without an age waiver.  If you are 17 or 18 years old and are not currently enrolled in high school, you must apply for an age waiver before testing.  Age waiver applications and more information about Minnesota requirements are available at:  https://hiset.org/minnesota/

The HiSet Exam is an alternative option to earn a diploma.   The HiSet exam consists of five multiple choice tests and one essay.  You can take the tests online, on paper, or at home.  The tests are also available in Spanish.  The tests include reading, writing, mathematics, science, and social studies.

HiSet Testing Accommodations

PSI is committed to serving test takers with disabilities or health-related needs by providing services and reasonable accommodations in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act (ADAAA) of 2008.

There are five different accommodation categories of diagnosed disabilities available to HiSet test takers which include the following:

  • Attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder
  • Psychological or psychiatric disorders
  • Learning and other cognitive disabilities
  • Physical disorders/chronic health disabilities
  • Intellectual disabilities
  • Hearing and visual impairments

There are no time limits on the age of the documentation.  The verification of a disability can be a doctor’s diagnosis, IEP, 504, counselor or psychologist letter or an educator letter.

Once you submit the accommodation application, you will be notified of your approval through your email, typically in 24-48 hours.
