AllergiesAllergies are an abnormally high immunologic sensitivity to certain stimuli such as drugs, foods, environmental irritants, microorganisms, or physical conditions, such as temperature extremes. Make sure any allergies are known by program staff and documented in their file.

Arthritis

Arthritis causes acute or chronic inflammation of one or more joints, usually accompanied by pain and stiffness. There are over 100 forms of arthritis.

Asthma

Asthma is a chronic condition that affects the airways in the lung.  It can cause wheezing, coughing, chest tightness and shortness of breath.  One of the triggers that can cause an asthma attack is strong odors such as perfume.

Cerebral Palsy

Cerebral Palsy is a term used to describe a condition that affects body movement and muscle coordination.  It is not progressive.

Chronic Fatigue SyndromeChronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) is a complicated disorder characterized by extreme fatigue that doesn’t improve with bed rest and may worsen with physical or mental activity. (Mayo Clinic Definition)

Developmental Cognitive Disability

Developmental Cognitive Disability (DCD) is defined as a condition that results in intellectual functioning significantly below average and is associated with concurrent deficits in adaptive behavior that require special education and related services. Diabetes, Type 1 & Type 2Diabetes is a disease in which the body does not produce or properly use insulin.

Epilepsy or Seizure DisorderA seizure can be described as an electrical storm in the brain. Repeated seizures are classified as Epilepsy.

Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia (FM) is a chronic pain illness characterized by widespread musculoskeletal aches, pain and stiffness, soft tissue tenderness, general fatigue, and sleep disturbances.

Heart/Vascular Disease
Heart disease is any disorder that affects the heart’s ability to function normally.

Lupus

Lupus is an autoimmune disease that can affect various parts of the body, including the skin, joints, heart, lungs, blood, kidneys and brain.

Multiple Sclerosis (MS)
MS is thought to be an autoimmune disease that affects the central nervous system, which consists of the brain, spinal cord and the optic nerves.

Muscular Dystrophy

Muscular Dystrophy is the name for a group of inherited disorders in which strength and muscle bulk gradually decline.

Spina Bifida
Spina Bifida (pronounced SPI-nuh BIFF-ih-duh) means an open or severed spine. The condition may affect a small region of the spine or a much larger area. In case of spina bifida, portions of the spinal column are pushed outward, making them vulnerable to injury or infection.

Spinal Cord Injury
Spinal cord injury is damage to the spinal cord that causes loss of sensation (feeling) and motor (muscular) control.
